Book Review

Where the Red Fern Grows

by Wilson Rawls

This book deserves an A. I don't know how I missed reading it growing up, but thinking back I don't believe I ever read it. I think I saw the video once but never actually read the book.

Again, I have to say that the video does it no justice at all. I have to wonder why this book never received any awards. I have never read a book where the author so througouly describes the character and heart of a person, (in this case a young boy.)

I found myself in awe of his grit and determination. I felt ashamed of how much I am given and how immediate my every desire is granted (almost...).
But this boy was the perfect example of working hard for something you want and the joy of getting it and really deserving it.

I have a soft spot for dogs so of course the ending of the book was emotional but seriously this is a must read. I am considering putting it in my top ten.

Sniff, Sniff! This book made me cry when I read it. I think I was in about sixth grade. I should try it again.
